“If you ask me what I’d most like to have invented in fashion, I’d say the white shirt. For me, the white shirt is the basis of everything. Everything else comes after,” Karl once stated.
Wanting to honor the memory of Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of Chanel and Fendi, some of his famous friends collaborated to create the “A Tribute to Karl: The White Shirt Project”, which redefines Karl’s favorite garment. The list includes names such as Takashi Murakami, Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, Amber Valletta and Tommy Hilfiger, and the designs will be displayed at an exhibition during Paris Fashion Week in September.
Karl Lagerfeld’s love for the number seven will also be incorporated into the project, as 7 of the final designs will be replicated 77 times and sold for €777 each. All revenues from the sales will be donated to Sauver la Vie institution, which funds medical research at Paris Descartes University.
