What kind of colour is French Blue
It is a cool color that adds freshness to the space and French refinement. French Blue is a saturated and a medium-intensity color that, as its name suggests, represents France. Since the 12th century it has been used in the heraldry (armorial bearings – emblems) of the French monarchy in combination with golden flowers. It is a brighter version, based on the blue of the French tricolor.
The style of decoration that it fits into
Although this color is linked to the traditional style of decoration, it does not mean that it cannot also be used in a modern and minimalist decorated home.
If we choose the traditional style, then we can use traditional sofas, armchairs and Bergère. A Victorian chair can be an eclectic touch in our living room. It is not necessary for the furniture fabric to be total French blue. We can use it as an accent colour on pillows and throw blankets on a white canvas. We can also find a fabric with a pattern for the furniture or other decorative elements.
Striped fabrics in white and French blue can also decorate armchairs and pillows. Another characteristic print is toile. This is a repeated pattern, in this case in a French blue color, on a white background.

As we mentioned above, french blue matches wood color. Ideally a saturated tone like beech or a light color like birch.
An ideal color to match it with is white and off-white. Generally the tones of gray as well as other saturated colors such as pale pink and beige. When we say saturated we mean colors to which gray has been added in them. Of course, let’s not forget gold, which creates an impressive combination. It can be mixed with silver too for a more subtle colour scheme.
