The truth is that since IGTV was released in 2018, the instagram feature for video that wanted to compete YouTube, I haven’t used it very much. Of course I’m not the most representative sample as I didn’t make any vlog type of videos or similar, but one of the most important factors that prevented me from using it was the fact that you can’t include a link in the description and also the vertical video that you can’t easily share to other platforms. A few days ago I tried to upload a video and I couldn’t find any way to do it except of course from the instagram upload button of its feed when I faced the problem of the different ratio of the video.
So it looks like instagram removed this feature as it didn’t have the impact they anticipated. Most people watched the videos through their feed without visiting the special feature. On the other hand, users also preferred not to upload a video to IGTV. Specifically, celebrities and influencers, who did not have the same means of promotion provided by other platforms, they did not support it. Of course the existing content will not be lost but no new content can be added to the IGTV feature.
This seems to be the end for the IGTV feature, and now videos can only be uploaded to the feed. A new application, TikTok, looks that it has taken over, which is made only for vertical videos. This app is said to have about 700 million downloads in 2019. Maybe this app is more popular as it enables users to edit their videos.
As the saying goes, “to each his own”. It remains to see if this app will be bought by Facebook as well!
