Ulyana Sergeenko‘s new Spring/Summer 2019 Collection is inspired by Mikhail Sholokhov’s epic novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” and -of course- the cinema version of the director Sergey Gerasimov. The collection is based on the two main female characters of the movie -passionate Aksiniya and serene Natalya. Ulyana follows each character through different aspects of their lives -happiness and sorrow, obstacles and successes- in order to create the heroine of her new collection: a woman pretty and persistent.
Inspired by the film, Ulyana creates her own movie set instead of another catwalk. It’s a story about the power of women, where each and every one of us carries inside. The beauty, the knowledge and the strength of all the women in her life -mother, sister, aunt, grandmother- and is capable of ruling the world. There is no room for rivalry; women are united, share their energy and help one another. Ulyana invited great women to be part of her story, such as the descedants designers of Madame Cadolle and the legendary photographer Ellen von Unwerth.
Her creations carry influences from the heroes’ characters, but also the time and place of the book/film. We see white wide shirts with handmade embroidery made by Krestetskaya line technique, handcrafted taffeta skirts, leather cases and boots that refer to traditional Cossack costumes.
