Happy Happy New Year! New year, new fashion exhibitions are waiting for us all over the world to visit them! Below there are some of the best exhibitions that we should not miss if we find ourselves in one of this fashion metropolises!
Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion
The top British Museum of Art and Design, Victoria and Albert will host until 18th of February 2018 the work and legacy of the well-known Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. More than 100 pieces of the “master” of couture, but also of his protégées and contemporary designers, who continued to work on the same innovative tradition, will be featured in room 40 of the museum daily. This is an exhibition that you should not miss if you are in London at this time.

Gianfranco Ferrè. Under a Different Light: Jewels and Decorations
The Palazzo Madama of Turin hosts another kind of Gianfranco Ferrè until 19 February 2018. 200 jewellery of the Italian fashion designer will make their world debut through the creative narrative of Ferrè, thanks to the significant contribution of his Foundation. His creations include bangles, pins, bands, necklaces, bracelets and rings created by the Ferrè brand to reinforce and complete the prêt-à-porter collections of women’s clothing from 1980 to 2007, all made of sginy stones, painted wood, Murano glasses, pearls, ceramics and Svarowski crystals

Fashioned from Nature
A very special exhibition will be hosted at the British Victoria and Albert Museum in London from 21 April 2018 to 27 January 2019. It is the first exhibition in the United Kingdom that deals with the complicated relationship of fashion and nature from 1600 until nowadays. Visitors are invited to think about the fashion materials and the origin of their clothes fabrics, as it will present fashionable clothing along with natural history specimens, innovative fabrics and dyeing processes. It is certain that such an exhibition can not leave any visitor indifferent, whether comes from the world of fashion or not.

Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination
A very interesting costume show, and a lot more than that, is to be held at The MET in New York City. 150 pieces showing the strong relationship between Catholicism and fashion will be presented by MET Institute of Costumes. Dresses, coats, pieces of jewellery and accessories from the wardrobe of a Christian princess will be exhibited in three large spaces from 10th of May to 8th of October 2018. The Vatican will lend the exhibition 50 pieces from its collection such as cornerstones, Papal robes, jewellery, tiaras and other ecclesiastical treasures from the Sistina Chapel, many of which have never gone out of the Vatican before. Anyone who is interested in examining closely how religious artworks and Catholicism can influence fashion has to visit it. On the 7th of May, there is also an annual gala in the showrooms, where guests will be inspired by Christian images, with hostesses of the party Rihanna, Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace.
Azzedine Alaïa : The Couturier
The Design Museum of London will host from 10th of May to 7th of October 2018, the wonderful creations of the famous haute couture designer Azzedine Alaïa. With 35 years of haute couture and emphasizing on innovative materials, there would be presented 60 pieces of the female form that Monsieur Alaïa and Mark Wilson personally have chosen. Through these creations, the visitor will be able to literally discover the mastery of cut, tailoring, fit, innovative form and materials. The exhibition will also include special architectural elements / pieces from leading artists and designers with whom the designer maintained a long-lasting creative dialogue, such as Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Konstantin Grcic, Marc Newson, Kris Ruhs and Tatiana Trouvé.
Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up
The icon of Mexico and the whole world, the legendary artist Frida Kahlo will be hosted at Gallery 38 of the British Victoria and Albert Museum from 16th of June to 4th of November 2018. Visitors will live an unforgettable experience as an amazing collection of personal items and clothes will be presented. This is a collection that has been for 50 years, since Kahlo’s death, locked in Mexico, and now it’s time to be exposed across the world.
